Fusion energy could be an answer to the rising demand on energy resources and provide a clean and safe alternative to many of the fossil fuels we use today. Nuclear fusion is the process which occurs in the sun, so why don’t we already have fusion energy power plants? This talk will explore the different facilities across the world working to achieve fusion and the challenges that they face in reaching this goal. These experiments are not only useful in creating fusion energy but also in performing laboratory astrophysics experiments which help answer questions such as how supernova evolve within the universe. This talk will give an insight into the fusion energy effort as well as the other exciting parallel projects that can also help to explain astrophysical phenomena.
