What do Rain Man and Dr Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory) have in common? Both characters are associated with autism (or Asperger syndrome, a form of autism). Autism is believed to affect one in every hundred children. In this talk, Dr Rachel Moseley attempts to move understanding of autism beyond these media stereotypes. Outlining the symptoms of autism and attempting to break some of the common myths surrounding it, Dr Moseley queries whether autism really is a mental illness at all or simply reflects a different type of brain.
