I am a freelance writer and photographer, I have written many books about Science and History. I do some broadcasting on radio and television. I like working from home, often with a cat helping on my desk. When I have to travel I like to do it by bike and train.
I spent five years in publishing and 17 years at Yorkshire Television, as researcher and then producer of such series as Scientific Eye and Arthur C Clarke’s World of Strange Powers.
My most recent series for The History Channel, have been Just Another Day (the science and technology of everyday life) and How Britain was Built (shot in Bristol, Liverpool, Edinburgh, and Newcastle). I have appeared on Celebrity Mastermind, Richard and Judy, Have I Got News For You, and various other programmes.
I am highly Honoured to have been awarded the ASME's (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) prestigious Ralph Coats Roe Medal in 2014 which recognizes outstanding contributions toward a better public understanding and appreciation of the engineer’s worth to contemporary society.
